Slap Savica - Details

Description
This is a short walk to a viewpoint where you can watch the impressive Savica waterfall (Slap Savice) from about 40 meters distance. This is one of the most touristic natural attractions. The path is made easy enough for anyone who can walk stairs. A fee has to be paid at the start.
The Savica is fed by underground karst channels from Črno jezero, the lowest Triglav lake lying above the Komarča rock face, which in turn is connected underground to most of the other Triglav Lakes.
You will find signs about the presence of the Savica everywhere in the region so the walk is mentioned on this site for the sake of completeness.

Alternative walk, to the source of the Savica
In addition to this walk or as an alternative, it is possible to walk to the source of the Savica. At the end of the walk you arrive at a small rock plateau from where you can see the Savica emerging from a fault in the Komarča rock face, very closely.
You can also see the little wooden hut which is the viewpoint to which the walk to the waterfall leads, below left.

How to get there
Coming from Ribcev Laz at Lake Bohinj, drive along the southern shore of Lake Bohinj to Ukanc and continue to Dom Savica and Koča pri Savici where there is a large parking (or just follow directions to Slap Savica anywhere in the region, you won’t miss it).

During the walk (Slap Savica)
At the parking, follow directions to Slap Savica.
Though very touristic this is a nice path with many easy steps (Jet counted 546). There are opportunities for a short rest on a bench at several places.

During the walk (Source of the Savica)
From the parking, walk north to the bridge over the Savica and follow signs to Črno jezero. About 130 meters after the bridge, take the the path to Črno jezero that branches off to the left.
Continue walking uphill through the beech forest. First you see a path branching off to the left, but this path is not allowed to be used. It goes to the hydroelectric power station.
At the point where you reach the first rock face of the Komarča cliff with a waterfall flowing along the rocks, the path bends sharp to the left. In the next sharp bend to the right, there is a path that branches off to the left, to the source. Follow that path and after five minutes you arrive at the source.
